(February 25, 2015) Lakewood, NJ—The international initiative is organized by the Council For Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) to increase student understanding of philanthropy and grow engagement on campuses. At GCU, student giving and involvement in philanthropic activities continues to grow.

“Inviting students to participate in our Student Engagement and Philanthropy Day is a wonderful way to educate, engage and excite them about the importance and impact of supporting their future alma mater after graduation,” said Mellissia M. Zanjani, Ph.D., CFRE, Georgian Court’s vice president of Institutional Advancement.

The university is hosting a range of fun activities during Lion Loyalty Day (#lionloyalty, #studentengageday) including Penny Wars, photo opps with Roary the Lion (the GCU mascot), and student fundraising for the newly announced Rosemary E. Jeffries, RSM, Ph.D. ’72 Scholarship.

“We hope this day will motivate students to become leaders in works of volunteering and philanthropy,” said Dr. Zanjani. “Georgian Court University is pleased to partner with CASE Affiliated Student Advancement Programs for another year.”

Student engagement and involvement with philanthropy is not limited to a single day at GCU. Year-round they work to raise funds and awareness for annual giving, scholarship programs, and other projects benefiting the university.

Student Engagement and Philanthropy Month is part of CASE’s goal to foster and enhance student involvement in all areas of advancement—including fundraising, alumni relations, communications and marketing.

“It’s important that students start taking steps to become the next group of philanthropic leaders,” says Rob Henry, CASE’s executive director of emerging constituencies. “Throughout the entire month of February, we celebrate the value students bring to their institutions with their time, talent and treasure.”

CASE has sponsored similar initiatives annually since 2013. Institutions from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and other countries will participate throughout the month of February organizing various activities, including “thank-a-thons,” month-long social media campaigns and student video interviews on what giving means to them.
