Georgian Court Welcomes Bishop O’Connell for Talk on Faith, Holiness

Georgian Court University’s Year of Faith Continues with Bishop’s Public Lecture

Bishop O’Connell will discuss the role of faith in our lives during his Jan. 29 public lecture at Georgian Court University in Lakewood.

 

Lakewood, N.J., Jan. 14, 2013—Georgian Court University’s Year of Faith observance continues Tuesday, January 29 when Bishop David M. O’Connell of the Diocese of Trenton delivers a free, public lecture on the “The Call to Holiness.” His talk, which will take place at 6:30 p.m. in the Little Theatre on GCU’s historic Lakewood campus. A brief reception will follow the lecture.

In addition to his public lecture, Bishop O’Connell will spend time with Georgian Court faculty and students earlier in the day during the Mass of the Holy Spirit. The bishop, also a former president of The Catholic University of America, continues to be actively involved with GCU, the only Catholic institution of higher education in Central and South Jersey.

Members of the community are welcome to attend the bishop’s January 29 lecture, but reservations are required and seating is limited. To reserve your spot, please contact the Office of Conferences and Special Events at 732.987.2263 or specialevents@georgian.edu.

Bishop O’Connell’s 2013 discussion is part of GCU’s Year of Faith, as declared internationally in October 2011 by Pope Benedict XVI. In October 2012, Bishop O’Connell led thousands of area parishoners and others (including GCU students, faculty and religious staff) in an official kickoff at the PNC Arts Center. Since then, the university has held other Year of Faith events, sponsored, in part, by a $50,000 grant from the Council of Independent Colleges’ NetVUE initiative.
